IRON MAN: A WALK IN THE STARK - "HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU, ECHIDNA" (BEST SEEN LARGE 'COS HE'S SUCH A 'LIL BLOKE...) "OKAY. COOL. SO...YOU SCRATCH MY BACK AND I'LL SCRATCH YOURS...." Tony Stark, the Invincible Iron Man, had to admit, that this little guy really knew a thing or two about armour design... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Walking with some friends and their dogs along a road near Kyneton the woofers discovered this echidna. We had a quick look at it just in case it had been injured by a car but it seemed okay, if resigned to being flushed by noisy, nosy dogs. I always carry at least one small Iron Man figure on walks like this 'in case of emergency' so was able to snap an ultra quick shot before backing away and letting the wee beastie trundle off in search of a tasty ant or termite nest. The echidna is actually a monotreme (egg laying mammal) like one of our other eccentric Aussie critters, the platypus. It's a bit of a paradox really, as the eggs it lays are leathery, like a reptile's, and it lays them into a marsupial like pouch...how exotic! As with other spiny animals its prime defence is its bristling armour and when threatened it curls up into a ball or digs itself into the dirt. It's not general knowledge but the echidna does have venomous spurs, like the platypus, but there's no recorded case of them ever poisoning a human. Though you most assuredly do not want to stand on them or mess with them in general. And Tony probably should have kept his helmet on, just to be on the safe side.... IRON MAN: THE MOVIE !!! - "IRONY THREE" (BEST SEEN FROM A MOVING TRAM) The Iron Man movie's Australian theatrical release afforded a number of creative marketing opportunities for Stark Industries representatives eager to underline the Melbourne Branch's many achievements. Here a trio of S.I field testers race to catch a Melbourne tram. Their objective: to subject Stark built helmets to onboard battering by overhead passenger strap handles, surely the most severe impact test that Iron Man technology has endured, second only to blows from the mighty fists of the Incredible Hulk! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Artists Alison Weaver and Paul Quinn created this iconic statue group which stands on the corner of Swanston and Bourke streets, Melbourne, Australia. Unveiled on the 20th of April, 1994 the life sized bronze figure sculpture the ‘Three Businessmen Who Brought Their Own Lunch: Batman, Swanston and Hoddle’ is a whimsical tribute to three of Melbourne's early colonial pioneers. It was presented by President of Nauru Bernard Dowiyogo to the people of Melbourne celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the Australian city. The Iron Man movie helmets are (left to right) the Mark 2, Mark 1 and Mark 3. I shot the 6 inch and 12 inch movie tie-in action figures against a green screen and then 'shopped them in. There's several more iconic Melbourne landmarks and sculptures that I've also got my eyeslits on.... Oh, and there's an Easter Egg in the picture too.... ;) Related topics: nic wooden toys little big planet plush toys unusual infant toys brick boy toys pokemon toys figures plush horse toys playschool toys website chinese toys |
